Colorado Population and Age Distribution. Colorado’s estimated population was 5.2 million. The median age was 36.2 years. 24% of the population was under the age of 18, and 12% was 65 years and over.
Median Household Income. The median income of households was $56,765. The total number of households was 1,996,088 with an average of 2.54 people.
Colorado Employment and Unemployment Rate. 62.6% of the Colorado population over the age of 15 were employed which ranks 10th in the nation. The Colorado unemployment rate is 7.8% which was ranked 35th in the country.
Types of Employers. The types of employers in Colorado were as follows: 165,306 (6.5%) were self-employed, 362,653 (14.2%) were employed by the federal, state, or local government and 2,027,737 (79.2%) were employed by the private sector.
Top Five Industries. The top five industries by percent in Colorado were: Educational Services and Health Care (20.6%), Professional/Administrative/Scientific (13.6%), Accommodations/Food Service/Entertainment (11%), Retail (10.9%), and Construction (7.2%).
Occupations. Occupations for the population employed (over the age of 15) in Colorado’s private sector were: Business, Science, and Arts (40%), Service (17.6%), Sales and Office (24.2%), Natural Resources, Construction, and Maintenance (9.5%), and Production, Transportation, and Material Moving (8.8%).
Colorado Health Insurance Coverage. 85% of the civilian non-institutionalized population had health insurance coverage (15% had no coverage). Of those with coverage, 69% had private coverage and 26% had public coverage.
Disability. 10% of the civilian non-institutionalized population of Colorado reported a disability. The Colorado disability claim rate was ranked 50th in the country.

Colorado Crime Data*
Total Violent Crimes. Colorado had 16,023 total violent crimes which ranked 25th in the nation and with a violent crime rate 0.31% which ranked it 29th among all the states including DC & PR. Of the total number of violent crimes, 162 were murders, 2,113 were forcible rapes, 3,395 were robberies, and 10,353 were aggravated assaults.
Property Crime. Colorado had 139,270 total property crimes. Of the total number of property crimes, 26,157 were burglaries, 101,021 were larceny/thefts, and 12,092 were motor vehicle thefts.
Law Enforcement. Colorado had the 21st most law enforcement employees per population. Colorado ranked 25th in the nation for the most police officers per population.
