About Arizona*
Arizona Population and Age Distribution. Arizona’s estimated population was 6.6 million. The median age was 36.6 years. 25% of the population was under the age of 18, and 15% was 65 years and over.
Median Household Income. The median income of households was $47,826. The total number of households was 2,392,168 with an average of 2.68 people.
Arizona Employment and Unemployment Rate. 54% of the Arizona population over the age of 15 were employed which ranks 44th in the nation. The Arizona unemployment rate is 9.8% which was ranked 15th in the country.
Types of Employers. The types of employers in Arizona were as follows: 163,931 (5.9%) were self-employed, 409,982 (14.9%) were employed by the federal, state, or local government and 2,179,758 (79%) were employed by the private sector.
Top Five Industries. The top five industries by percent in Arizona were: Educational Services and Health Care (22.3%), Retail (12.2%), Professional/Administrative/Scientific (11.9%), Accommodations/Food Service/Entertainment (10.6%), and Finance, Insurance Real Estate, Rental/Leasing (8.1%).
Occupations. Occupations for the population employed (over the age of 15) in Arizona’s private sector were: Business, Science, and Arts (34.9%); Service (20.2%), Sales and Office (26.2%), Natural Resources, Construction, and Maintenance (9.1%), and Production, Transportation, and Material Moving (9.5%). Health Insurance Coverage. 82% of the civilian non-institutionalized population had health insurance coverage (18% had no coverage). Of those with coverage, 59% had private coverage and 34% had public coverage.
Disability. 12% of the civilian non-institutionalized population of Arizona reported a disability The Arizona disability claim rate was ranked 31st in the country.

Arizona Crime Data*
Total Violent Crimes. Arizona had 28,108 total violent crimes which ranked 12th in the nation and with a violent crime rate 0.43% which ranked it 16th among all the states including DC & PR. Of the total number of violent crimes, 358 were murders, 2,277 were forcible rapes, 7,386 were robberies, and 18,087 were aggravated assaults.
Property Crime. Arizona had 231,930 total property crimes. Of the total number of property crimes, 52,934 were burglaries, 159,838 were larceny/thefts, and 19,158 were motor vehicle thefts.
Law Enforcement. Arizona had the 14th most law enforcement employees per population. Arizona ranked 34th in the nation for the most police officers per population.
