Types of Employers. The types of employers in Connecticut were as follows: 109,973 (6.2%) were self-employed, 233,628 (13.3%) were employed by the federal, state, or local government and 1,414,209 (80.3%) were employed by the private sector.
Top Five Industries. The top five industries by percent in Connecticut were: Educational Services and Health Care (26.8%), Professional/Administrative/Scientific (11%), Retail (10.9%), Manufacturing (10.8%), and Finance, Insurance Real Estate, Rental/Leasing (9.2%).
Occupations. Occupations for the population employed (over the age of 15) in Connecticut’s private sector were: Business, Science, and Arts (41.5%), Service (18.1%), Sales and Office (23.7%), Natural Resources, Construction, and Maintenance (7%), and Production, Transportation, and Material Moving (9.7%).
Connecticut Health Insurance Coverage. 91% of the civilian non-institutionalized population had health insurance coverage (9% had no coverage). Of those with coverage, 72% had private coverage and 30% had public coverage.
Disability. 11% of the civilian non-institutionalized population of Connecticut reported a disability. The Connecticut disability claim rate was ranked 42nd in the country.

Total Violent Crimes. Connecticut had 10,160 total violent crimes which ranked 31st in the nation and with a violent crime rate 0.28% which ranked it 33rd among all the states including DC & PR. Of the total number of violent crimes, 146 were murders, 919 were forcible rapes, 3,687 were robberies, and 5,408 were aggravated assaults.
Property Crime. Connecticut had 76,834 total property crimes. Of the total number of property crimes, 14,711 were burglaries, 55,674 were larceny/thefts, and 6,449 were motor vehicle thefts.
Law Enforcement. Connecticut had the 33rd most law enforcement employees per population. Connecticut ranked 19th in the nation for the most police officers per population.
