New Hampshire Population and Age Distribution. New Hampshire’s estimated population was 1.3 million. The median age was 41.9 years. 21% of the population was under the age of 18, and 15% was 65 years and over.
Median Household Income. The median income of households was $63,280. The total number of households was 519,137 with an average of 2.47 people.
New Hampshire Employment and Unemployment Rate. 64.1% of the New Hampshire population over the age of 15 were employed which ranks 6th in the nation. The New Hampshire unemployment rate is 6.5% which was ranked 44th in the country.
Types of Employers. The types of employers in New Hampshire were as follows: 50,648 (7.3%) were self-employed, 94,594 (13.7%) were employed by the federal, state, or local government and 546,146 (78.9%) were employed by the private sector.
Top Five Industries. The top five industries by percent in New Hampshire were: Educational Services and Health Care (24.5%), Manufacturing (12.5%), Retail (12.4%), Professional/Administrative/Scientific (10.3%), and Accommodations/Food Service/Entertainment (8.9%).
New Hampshire Occupations. Occupations for the population employed (over the age of 15) in New Hampshire’s private sector were: Business, Science, and Arts (39.9%), Sales and Office (24%), Service (16.2%), Production, Transportation, and Material Moving (10.9%), and Natural Resources, Construction, and Maintenance (9.1%).
New Hampshire Health Insurance Coverage. 89% of the civilian non-institutionalized population had health insurance coverage (11% had no coverage). Of those with coverage, 75% had private coverage and 27% had public coverage.
Disability. 12% of the civilian non-institutionalized population of New Hampshire reported a disability. The New Hampshire disability claim rate was ranked 30th in the country.

Total Violent Crimes. New Hampshire had 2,481 total violent crimes (which ranked 48th in the nation) and with a violent crime rate of 0.19% (which ranked it 50th among all the states including DC & PR). Of the total number of violent crimes, 15 were murders, 449 were forcible rapes, 472 were robberies, and 1,545 were aggravated assaults.
Property Crime. New Hampshire had 30,693 total property crimes. Of the total number of property crimes, 5,444 were burglaries, 24,226 were larceny/thefts, and 1,023 were motor vehicle thefts.
Law Enforcement. New Hampshire had the 34th most law enforcement employees per population. New Hampshire ranked 28th in the nation for the most police officers per population.
