Nevada Population and Age Distribution. Nevada’s estimated population was 2.8 million. The median age was 36.8 years. 24% of the population was under the age of 18, and 13% was 65 years and over.
Median Household Income. The median income of households was $49,760. The total number of households was 1,006,605 with an average of 2.7 people.
Nevada Employment and Unemployment Rate. 56.8% of the Nevada population over the age of 15 were employed which ranks 35th in the nation. The Nevada unemployment rate is 12.3% which was ranked 1st in the country.
Types of Employers. The types of employers in Nevada were as follows: 64,674 (5.3%) were self-employed, 153,078 (12.4%) were employed by the federal, state, or local government and 1,011,282 (82.2%) were employed by the private sector.
Top Five Industries. The top five industries by percent in Nevada were: Accommodations/Food Service/Entertainment (25.9%), Educational Services and Health Care (15.2%), Retail (12.1%), Professional/Administrative/Scientific (11.2%), and Construction (6%).
Nevada Occupations. Occupations for the population employed (over the age of 15) in Nevada’s private sector were: Service (28.1%), Business, Science, and Arts (27.1%), Sales and Office (26.1%), Production, Transportation, and Material Moving (9.9%), and Natural Resources, Construction, and Maintenance (8.8%).
Nevada Health Insurance Coverage. 78% of the civilian non-institutionalized population had health insurance coverage (22% had no coverage). Of those with coverage, 62% had private coverage and 26% had public coverage.
Disability. 12% of the civilian non-institutionalized population of Nevada reported a disability. The Nevada disability claim rate was ranked 24th in the country.

Total Violent Crimes. Nevada had 16,763 total violent crimes (which ranked 23rd in the nation) and with a violent crime rate of 0.61% (which ranked it 3rd among all the states including DC & PR). Of the total number of violent crimes, 124 were murders, 931 were forcible rapes, 4,918 were robberies, and 10,790 were aggravated assaults.
Property Crime. Nevada had 77,510 total property crimes. Of the total number of property crimes, 22,120 were burglaries, 45,372 were larceny/thefts, and 10,018 were motor vehicle thefts.
Law Enforcement. Nevada had the 16th most law enforcement employees per population. Nevada ranked 32nd in the nation for the most police officers per population.
