Median Household Income. The median income of households was $19,429. The total number of households was 1263694 with an average of 2.87 people.
Puerto Rico Employment and Unemployment Rate. 37.4% of the Puerto Rico population over the age of 15 were employed. The Puerto Rico unemployment rate is 17.3%.
Types of Puerto Rico Employers. The types of employers in Puerto Rico were as follows: 93,837 (8.6%) were self-employed, 255,687 (23.4%) were employed by the federal, state, or local government and 743,633 (67.9%) were employed by the private sector.
Top Five Puerto Rico Industries. The top five industries by percent in Puerto Rico were: Educational Services and Health Care (22.9%), Retail (13.5%), Professional/Administrative/Scientific (9.5%), Manufacturing (9.3%), and Public Administration (9.2%).
Puerto Rico Occupations. Occupations for the population employed (over the age of 15) in Puerto Rico’s private sector were: Business, Science, and Arts (32.1%), Sales and Office (28%), Service (19.9%), Production, Transportation, and Material Moving (10.3%), and Natural Resources, Construction, and Maintenance (9.7%).
Puerto Rico Health Insurance Coverage. 93% of the civilian non-institutionalized population had health insurance coverage (7% had no coverage). Of those with coverage, 41% had private coverage and 58% had public coverage.
Disability. 21% of the civilian non-institutionalized population of Puerto Rico reported a disability. The Puerto Rico disability claim rate was ranked 1st in the country.

Total Violent Crimes. Puerto Rico had 10,041 total violent crimes (which ranked 32nd in the nation) and with a violent crime rate of 0.20% (which ranked it 48th among all the states including DC & PR). Of the total number of violent crimes, 978 were murders, 32 were forcible rapes, 6,298 were robberies, and 2,733 were aggravated assaults.
Property Crime. Puerto Rico had 51,679 total property crimes. Of the total number of property crimes, 15,287 were burglaries, 30,545 were larceny/thefts, and 5,847 were motor vehicle thefts.
