Median Household Income. The median income of households was $66,259. The total number of households was 447,748 with an average of 3.01 people.
Hawaii Employment and Unemployment Rate. 57.8% of the Hawaii population over the age of 15 were employed which ranks 30th in the nation. The Hawaii unemployment rate is 7.1% which was ranked 39th in the country.
Types of Employers. The types of employers in Hawaii were as follows: 44,911 (6.9%) were self-employed, 132,852 (20.5%) were employed by the federal, state, or local government and 469,292 (72.4%) were employed by the private sector.
Top Five Industries. The top five industries by percent in Hawaii were: Retail (12.4%), Professional/Administrative/Scientific (11%), Educational Services and Health Care (19.2%), Accommodations/Food Service/Entertainment (16.2%), and Public Administration (8.8%).
Occupations. Occupations for the population employed (over the age of 15) in Hawaii’s private sector were: Business, Science, and Arts (33.3%), Service (23.1%), Sales and Office (24.8%), Natural Resources, Construction, and Maintenance (10.1%), and Production, Transportation, and Material Moving (8.7%).
Hawaii Health Insurance Coverage. 93% of the civilian non-institutionalized population had health insurance coverage (7% had no coverage). Of those with coverage, 76% had private coverage and 31% had public coverage.
Disability. 11% of the civilian non-institutionalized population of Hawaii reported a disability. The Hawaii disability claim rate was ranked 39th in the country.

Hawaii Crime Data*
Total Violent Crimes. Hawaii had 3,330 total violent crimes (which ranked 43th in the nation) and with a violent crime rate 0.24% (which ranked it 43rd among all the states including DC & PR). Of the total number of violent crimes, 29 were murders, 285 were forcible rapes, 1,040 were robberies, and 1,976 were aggravated assaults.
Property Crime. Hawaii had 42,817 total property crimes. Of the total number of property crimes, 7,979 were burglaries, 31,233 were larceny/thefts, and 3,605 were motor vehicle thefts.
Law Enforcement. Hawaii had the 42nd most law enforcement employees per population. Hawaii ranked 29th in the nation for the most police officers per population.
